Floppy Drive Avoids Spills

I think all tech should be able to do this.
The drive just sits there like any other drive, but once it senses a spill, legs pop out of it for safety!
Let’s just turn our devices into little computer-critters.

Old Expose in Snow Leopard

Don’t like the new Expose feature in Snow Leopard? We have a fix!

First of all, download this: Dock

Then, follow these steps closely:

1. Copy the Snow Leopard Beta Dock.app to the Desktop

2. In Terminal(/Applications/Utilities/Terminal), fix the permissions:

sudo chown -R root /Users/[short user name]/Desktop/Dock.app

sudo chgrp -R wheel /Users/[short user name]/Desktop/Dock.app

3. Make a folder called OldDock on the Desktop.

4. Kill the running Dock, move Snow Leopard’s old Dock to OldDock, and move Snow Leopard’s beta Dock to CoreServices:

sudo killall Dock && \

sudo mv /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app /Users/short_user_name/Desktop/OldDock/ && \

sudo mv /Users/short_user_name/Desktop/Dock.app /System/Library/CoreServices/

Just change the “short_user_name” part to your’s and then paste all of this as one line in the terminal. If you want the old Snow Leopard dock again, just reverse the steps. The old one is in your OldDock folder on your desktop. Enjoy!

Pres. Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize/Moon explodes

President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”. The Nobel site also seems to focus on “Obama’s efforts for a nuclear weapon free world”.

In more important news, the USA declares war on the moon.

A NASA program sent a huge-ass rocket into the friggin moon.
The program LCROSS slammed a big ole’ expensive rocket into a crater in the moon, with a trailing thingamabob clicking pictures to look for any ice or traces of water underneath the surface of the moon.

We at SP recommend you find the nearest shelter. It’s gunna be raining Cottage Cheese in a few minutes. Damn NASA for laughing at my warning letters and telling people to digg them. Now who’s laughing.

The new Xbox 360 “Project Natal”. Consists of a motion sensor camera, voice recognition and facial recognition. Basically your body is the controller. Seems like an interesting idea if they can get it to work perfectly. Just imagine what the equivalent to the Wii Jacket would be..

Not to be outdone, Sony Playstation has come up with it’s own little magic wand. The detector keys onto the very fashionable sphere at the end of the wand and can then figure out how you’re holding it and etc. Sexy.

OMG No Facebook?!?! (Updated!)

The school tech department found it fitting to block facebook. We don’t.

That’s why we’re here to tell you how to fix it.

It looks like a long process but in reality it takes less than two minutes and only needs to be done once. The only reason its so long is because we tried to make it relatively idiot-proof .

Ready? Let’s bring back in-class facebooking!

The first option is through the use of proxies. Proxies are sadly very slow and annoying so we don’t recommend them.
The second option is through the use of a DNS server. This is a simple fix and usually works.
Select which operating system you use to get the corresponding guide:

- Windows

- Mac
The third and final solution is by downloading the easy and free application HotSpotShield.

DNS Servers – WINDOWS VERSION

Here’s how to fix it if you are using Windows (school laptop or your own, doesn’t matter). It looks like a long process but in reality it takes less than two minutes and only needs to be done once. The only reason its so long is because we tried to make it relatively idiot-proof . Click any of the images to enlarge them. Ready? Let’s bring back in-class facebooking!

1) Click Start, and then go to Connect To, and then click Show all connections

2) Right click on your wireless connection (usually Wireless Network Connection) and select Properties.

3) Scroll down in the little list till you see the option TCP/IP. Select it and press the Properties button.

4) Now select “Use the following DNS server addresses”

5) Enter the two numbers below:

64.102.255.44
128.107.241.185

Your window should now look like this:

6) Press OK.

7) Press Ok and close the window.

8) Facebook and other blocked sites should now be working. Remember to grin stupidly when passing by any of the Tech Support in the hallways

The one side effect is that whenever you want to access moodle you will have to change it back, or alternatively you can access it through a proxy, such as http://www.dingo.us.to/

Another alternative is you could just use facebook through the site mentioned above, but generally proxies are really slow.
