DNS Servers – MAC VERSION

DNS Servers – MAC VERSION

The school tech department found it fitting to block facebook. We don’t.

Here’s how to fix it if you are using a mac. It looks like a long process but in reality it takes less than two minutes and only needs to be done once. The only reason its so long is because we tried to make it relatively idiot-proof ;) . Click any of the images to enlarge them. Ready? Let’s bring back in-class facebooking!

1) Click the apple logo in the top left hand corner of your screen and select System Preferences.

1

2) Select the Network Icon

2

3) Click Airport to select it if it already isnt, and then click Advanced.

3

4) Now press DNS.

4-1

5) You will now need to add two sets of numbers to the left column. (They’re addresses really, but that doesnt matter).

5

Click the plus and then type or paste the first set of numbers in and then repeat this process with the second set of numbers. (Ignore the gray numbers. They will most likely be different for your computer and they dont matter.)

Here are the numbers:

64.102.255.44
128.107.241.185

6) It should look like this. (Again, Ignore the gray numbers. Its the ones in black you should be concerned with). Press OK.

6-1

7) Press Apply, and close System Preferences.

7

8) Facebook and other blocked sites should now be working. Remember to grin stupidly when passing by any of the Tech Support in the hallways :)

The one side effect is that whenever you want to access moodle you will have to change it back, or alternatively you can access it through a proxy, such as http://www.dingo.us.to/

Another alternative is you could just use facebook through the site mentioned above, but generally proxies are really slow.
