Recently a new trojan virus for mac computers has been discovered, and it’s hidden in a iWork installer. If you illegally downloaded the new iWork 09 from a torrent site you might have a chance of being infected. The trojan is estimated to have infected 20,000 computers. To check if you’ve been infected with this trojan, look in: /System/Library/StartupItems for an item named iWorkServices. If it exists, you’ve been infected with this Trojan horse. ![]()
The trojan replicates, and allows a remote user complete access of your computer. To try and delete the virus open terminal, /Application/Utilities/Terminal.app and then follow these steps, after all these steps, you have to press Enter:
1. type: sudo su (enter password)
2. then type: rm -r /System/Library/StartupItems/iWorkServices
3. type: rm /private/tmp/.iWorkServices
4. type: rm /usr/bin/iWorkServices
5. type: rm -r /Library/Receipts/iWorkServices.pkg
6. and finally type: killall -9 iWorkServices
if it says something like process running, type line 6 first then type the other lines.
This is a way the *might* fix it. Don’t blame me if it doesn’t, because it might spread itself to different places on your hd. If it doesn’t fix it, you, unfortunately, have to do a clean reinstall of your OS.
Software piracy is very bad and i hope this is a lesson to all of you reading this. Shame on you, we wouldn’t do something like this. Seriously, we wouldn’t.
UPDATE:For those of you who don’t like using the terminal, here is an application that will do it. link (password: poultry)
